Play OverviewPlay Overview

Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale (2021) is a strategy game where you are preparing food in a restaurant kitchen. Like Overcooked, you need to make the different dishes, wash up and serve customers. Unlike Overcooked, you aren't pressing buttons but performing the cutting, brushing, and squirting actions in virtual reality.

Play involves checking which order is next, finding and preparing the ingredients and combining them on the plate. This would be calm and simple if it weren't for the volume and veracity of the onslaught of orders.

The fun and chaos are expanded as you play with up to three other players. You must not only deal with your own dishes but help friends get ingredients and complete their plates too. This turns the challenge from one of dexterity and efficiency to one of communication (and quite often shouting) like Space Team.

There's more depth here than you might expect. You progress through increasingly hectic levels. There's a campaign mode with multiple stages and objectives on each level. This gives you a reason to not only laugh and shout but perfect your play to gain a higher score and unlock later levels.

This is all wrapped up in a fairytale aesthetic all its own. It's like you are running a cafe in the middle of some mystical wood with mad top hat-wearing rabbits, wolfs and king lions coming for food.
