Original Sin II

Play OverviewPlay Overview

Divinity: Original Sin II (2017) is a role-play adventure series. You head out with up to three other characters, each with backstories and personalities.

You start by creating a character, specifying stats, race, gender, and origin story. The second game extends these options with undead characters. You then recruit up to three companions to adventure with. These are also fully playable and open up different interactions with the world and computer characters you meet.

Unlike other games where your party must stay together, individuals in your group can split up and go in different directions. So in multiplayer modes (including a split-screen option on iPad) you can adventure separately and then rendezvous at a later point. This not only lets you progress in more directions quicker but leads to complex battle tactics and role-playing opportunities.

The second game is set on the fantasy world of Rivellon, centuries after Divinity: Original Sin. You play a Sorcerer captured by the Divine Order and sent to an island prison known as Fort Joy. On the way there, a gigantic Kraken Voidwoken attacks and sinks the ship, but the player character is saved by a mysterious voice, who calls the player "Godwoken". As you progress you discover more of this story and its implications for the world. You can advance your characters through the skill crafting system that mixes and changes skills as required.

Other games in the series include:
  • Divine Divinity (2002) on PC
  • Beyond Divinity (2004) on PC and Mac
  • Divinity II (2009) on PC and Xbox 360
  • Divinity: Original Sin (2014) on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Divinity: Original Sin II (2017) on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, Nintendo Switch, iPad
