Play Overview
Fire Escape (2020) is a murder mystery styled on Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. You sit on a fire escape and can see into the apartments opposite as well as hear the intimate conversations of your neighbours across the alleyway. You peer into the lives of the diverse tenants to piece together clues and solve the murder. Unlike the film, your choices direct the unfolding narrative and uncover (or fail to uncover) the hidden secrets that will unwrap the mystery.
You can play this in VR on PC (Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift). Or just play it like a normal PC game with no headset required. It's also available on Android.
While the game can't (and in many ways doesn't try to) match the classic film for suspense and drama, it offers involvement and agency that draws you into the lives of the people you watch. The seven stories and the crime unfold in real-time, which add pressure to proceedings.
Moment to moment you choose who to watch, use the controller to text and interact with characters. You can replay missed stories.
