Play OverviewPlay Overview

Ghost Squad (2008) is a shooting game where you use a light-gun or Wii Remote for shooting. This was converted from an Arcade game to the Wii (also playable on Wii U) to create a convincing and highly skilled light-gun shooting challenge for up to four players.

You play a person in the Ghost Squad, a Special Forces unit tasked with dangerous missions such as eliminating terrorist groups, releasing hostages, deactivating bombs, and rescuing the US President when terrorists hijack Air Force One.

Ghost Squad offers a range of 25 weapons each with different firing and reload styles. Gaining the right gun for particular enemies can make a big difference. You use these to clear areas in three semi-linear levels. Your choices during play determine which route you take, ranging from the jungle, a government-restricted villa, and inside an Air Force One. Alongside the shooting are challenges like defusing bombs and throwing grenades to disable armoured vehicles or guns.

Although initially, an arcade game with custom hardware, the Wii version of Ghost Squad works well with the Wii Remote (or optionally holstering this in the Wii Zapper. You use Wii Remote pointing functionality to target, although you can optionally use the Nunchuck stick. Although this may seem like a novelty, it's actually really accurate. There is a hard mode where the on-screen pointer is disabled and you just use instincts for shooting (having calibrated the Wii-Remote) to get extra points.

The result is an over the top Die Hard style experience. It's bombastic and rather silly, but a huge amount of fun to play in the family.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Ghost Squad 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 24 months ago.

You can play with 1 to 4 players in the same room, but you can’t play it online. 2 players for the campaign and 4 players for a party mode. Each player needs their own Wii Remote, but the game doesn't support the more accurate Motion Plus add-on.

Play Time: This game will take between 1 hour and 2 hours to complete. Multiple playthroughs are enjoyable because of the branching levels. Each time you complete a level the difficulty gets harder and more options open up for subsequent plays.
