Play OverviewPlay Overview

Green Hell (2019) is an intentionally hard open-world survival game. You are abandoned in the Amazonian rain forest with no equipment or food, just your wits. In order to survive, you must utilise real-world survival technics to build your shelter; start fires, set traps; gather food; find clean water; make tools; and craft weapons. In the jungle, you are under constant threat from wild animals and diseases. However, the dangers do not stop within the jungle, the most dangerous enemy in survival is your mind.

The jungle environment dynamically changes and will respond to changes you make to the ecosystems. Unlike other traditional survival games, you must use body inspection mode in combination with foraging for medical supplies to ensure cuts do not become infected or parasites do not start living in your body. Green Hell requires you to manage both physical and psychological strength to find your way out alive.

There's a survival mode where you are relentlessly put to the ultimate survival test in the remote reaches of the Amazon rainforest. The Story Mode invites you to find out what happened to your love, Mia? How can you escape? How can you survive? Seeking answers to these questions will take you to the brink of sanity as you rediscover well-known areas and discover new areas for the first time.

Our examiner, Eamon Gaudio, first checked Green Hell 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 3 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 18 for drugs and strong language. We asked the VSC Rating board why the PEGI rating didn't include a Violence descriptor. They said: "The descriptors shown alongside the PEGI rating highlight the reasons for the specific PEGI rating awarded, rather than all issues that might be present in a game. So, the fact there isn’t a violence descriptor next to the PEGI rating doesn’t mean there isn’t violence, just that this wasn’t the deciding factor."

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Mature Accompanied (MA 15+) for Strong Violence, Strong Drug Use.

Skill Level

16+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. The complexities and harsh challenge of the game makes it only really enjoyable for older players. In particular the mental health aspect of the game requires some mature processing.
