Play OverviewPlay Overview

Horace (2019) is a platform adventure full of nostalgic pop-culture references and British humour. You run and jump through a funny and heartfelt story told by Horace, the game's charming robot protagonist. Adopted by a wealthy family for reasons unknown, Horace simply wants to find his place in the world. Things don't quite go to plan though and the family end up scattered to the wind, which leads Horace out from the confines of the family mansion to adventure across the world (and time and space).

As you progress, you gain access to upgrades and powers. Gravity boots that allow you to walk on walls and ceilings. Atlas gloves that enable you to throw objects and many more powers. These, along with regular checkpoints, help with the challenging jumps and puzzle solving. If you do die you can restart quickly and have infinite lives.

The running and jumping are interspersed with different mini-games drawn from video games of years gone by. You can expect to try your hand at variations of classics like Pong, Space Invaders and Outrun, among many others. This is a game that is bursting at the seams with content, but one that blends it together expertly.

Horace is a uniquely British game with an old-school appeal that harkens back to platform classics found on the Super Nintendo or Amiga, but whether you lived through that period or not, the gameplay alone will keep you challenged and entertained.

Our examiner, Wesley Williams, first checked Horace 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 7 months ago.
