Play OverviewPlay Overview

Inked (2018) is a puzzle game where you play a sketched hero venturing into the world of ink and paper, from the perspective of the artist who drew you. With simple controls, you traverse platforms and ramps and solve a range of hand-drawn puzzles with geometric shapes. It's unusual not only for its visual style but also for the metaphorical interaction between the drawn and drawer on a quest to find hope.

You are given the artist's pen and the ability to add shapes to help you through puzzles. As you progress through the game you are given more shape tools to choose from. For example, you can place objects like a square block or an angled ramp to help you climb walls or cross gaps. You use the weight and the physics of the drawn-in shapes to solve some puzzles.

Inked is the story of a Nameless Hero who has lost his love, Aiko, and the story is intertwined with the artist, Adam's, life. As you embark on a journey to find Aiko, you also learn what is going on in Adam’s life through the puzzles he is drawing.

It's a unique perspective through the eyes of an artist. Not only do you delve into the world created by real-life trauma, but you glimpse the life behind the drawing: Adam's room and desk are scattered with empty Chinese food boxes.

Our examiner, Hannah Robertson, first checked Inked 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 10 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for mild violence that lacks any apparent harm or injury to fantasy or mythical beings and creatures, as well as non-realistic looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed. This game features a couple of notable scenes of violence. In one case, a large human hand kills a bird while in the other case, the same large hand kills a woman. The hand represents the artist who is responsible for drawing the characters and landscapes in the game. The violence isn't very detailed or realistic, with both characters disappearing in splashes of blue ink.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE for Mild Language and Mild Fantasy Violence.
