Play OverviewPlay Overview

Little Nightmares II (2021) is a running and jumping game wrapped in a horror theme. You play a little boy named Mono who explores a dark and disturbing world. On your journey, you meet a little girl called Six and together you try to survive and uncover the dark secrets of "The Pale City".

You explore the world by running, jumping and solving environmental puzzles. You can call out to Six to help solve these puzzles and can and hold her hand to guide her around and keep her from harm. You can also grab items and use them to fight off smaller foes. As you progress there are various scary scenarios that you must overcome to survive and items to collect.

Little Nightmares 2 is a prequel to the original Little Nightmares and it successfully builds upon what made the original game great. It fantastically creates a creepy and disturbing atmosphere ripe with tension without a single line of dialogue or narration. Instead, the game uses music, clever sound design, environmental storytelling and little moments of character performance to help drive a compelling story. This when combined with some interesting and innovative puzzles makes for a unique gameplay experience.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Little Nightmares II 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 8 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for Violence. This game contains frequent depictions of realistic-looking violence towards human-like characters. The player character can be killed in a multitude of ways, either by attacks from enemies or by falling victim to various traps. The player can be shot, crushed and bludgeoned. In none of these instances are blood effects or any other visible injuries shown. However, the characters do struggle realistically and fall limply to the floor before the screen fades to black.

There are also depictions of violence towards fantasy characters, including humanoid characters with porcelain heads. The player has to defeat these characters by smashing their heads with blunt objects. Their heads simply smash, with no gore or blood, and the characters fall to the floor. There is an intense feeling of dread throughout the game and the imagery and the design of the enemies are potentially frightening. Dead bodies and other graphic images can be seen in the background of the levels.

Rated for younger players in the US. ESRB TEEN for Blood, Violence. Getting caught by the large ghoul-like enemies usually results in Mono's death: getting struck by objects; being chased and shot; getting eaten alive. The game often has a dark tone, with sounds of characters screaming, depictions of body bags and meat grinders, and blood stains splattered on objects in a hospital and morgue. One sequence depicts human-like characters falling from rooftops, apparently committing suicide.
