Play OverviewPlay Overview

Never Alone (2014) is a running, jumping and exploring game based on the traditional Iñupiaq tale, "Kunuuksaayuka". You swap between controlling an Iñupiaq girl named Nuna and her Arctic fox companion as you complete puzzles and move the story forward.

You race to discover the source of the blizzard that has ravaged your village and hope to restore balance to nature. While the fox is fast, Nuna can pick up things and open new areas using her bola. Using the right character for each situation is part of the puzzle. As you do this the story is told in the form of an oral tale through vignettes of Iñupiaq elders, storytellers, and community members sharing their wisdom.

Our examiner, Jonah Monaghan, first checked Never Alone 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 7 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for moderate violence. On her journey, Nuna comes across challenging obstacles which lead to a grim end should she fail: hazards include being eaten by a polar bear, being crushed between two blocks of ice, falling on icicles or plunging into icy Alaskan waters. However, there is no gore in these scenes and Nuna awakes from the same point to carry on her journey. Other instances of violence include one in which the fox’s neck is snapped – with no sound or blood – and its limp body is thrown into the abyss. These scenes were considered suitable at a PEGI 12 level as they all occur in a non-detailed, side-scroller view, lessening the realism of the violence.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE 10+ for Mild Violence.
