Play OverviewPlay Overview

Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) is an adventure game with a wild west theme and a prequel to Red Dead Redemption. As you explore a vast and varied open world, you partake in shootouts, heists, and elaborate chases across the wilderness. It expands upon the concept of the first game with a bigger and more detailed interactive world, more things to do and a more branching story.

Set in 1899, you play Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and member of Dutch Van der Linde's gang, set on resisting the modernisation of the world and erosion of your simple way of life. When you decide to gather enough money to retire and settle down before the world forces your hand, you rob trains and towns, shooting anyone who stands in your way. As the serious and nuanced story progresses, you witness Dutch turn from the charismatic and charming leader of your gang to the cold-blooded killer he is in the first game.

Play involves exploring the world's five fictional states, by horse, train, and foot, using guns to defeat enemies and interacting with characters you meet. You can tackle the game in various directions, but one way or another you take on shootouts, heists, hunting, horseback riding, and maintaining the character's honour rating through moral choices and deeds. Alongside the main activities, you can fish, play cards, and engage with the lived-in world in countless other ways.

The game is from the same developer as Grand Theft Auto and offers a similar style of game, albeit at a more relaxed pace. Selling over 55 million copies, it received critical acclaim for the detail of the open world and the mature storytelling, making for an engaging and novel experience.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 18 for graphic violence, motiveless killing of innocent characters, violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters, use of strong language and encouragement of gambling. This game contains frequent depictions of violence towards defenceless human characters. The player has the ability to lasso and tie up any character in the game. Once the character is restrained you can commit a number of violent acts, such as leaving them on the train tracks for an oncoming train to hit, dragging them behind your horse whilst they are still alive, or throwing them into a body of water to drown. This game also features depictions of the apparently motiveless killing of multiple innocent human-like characters. If used at close range blasts can lead to decapitation and dismemberment of various limbs. This also applies to some of the animal characters, such as the horses. There are also some “execution-style” moves which feature very strong graphic violence paired with strong blood and gore effects. This game also contains frequent uses of sexual expletives and discriminatory language. The word “*!@?*” and its derivatives can be found throughout, and discriminatory slurs can be found in the dialogue. This game also contains moving images that encourage and teach the use of game of chance.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Mature Accompanied (MA 15+) for Strong violence, coarse language and sex scene.
The game deals with some of the violence in quite mature ways. For example, if you kill a character who is a father you have to face what you've done when you meet their wife and family.
