Play Overview
Rip Them Off (2021) is puzzle game where you build businesses to attract customers. It's an economic management version of tower defence. Rather than stopping soldiers by shooting them, you are stopping citizens by selling them things. You choose locations, put up stores and build a business.
Taking inspiration from the Mad Men television show, the 1950's visuals create a world where commerce is king. You job is to choose the types of shops for your flow of customers. Stores sell items of different values and take different amount of time to sell to each customer. When they are full of customers, no one can enter the store until someone leaves.
In this way, you aim to provide an ideal set of shops to extract all the money each customer has. This is a balance of the cost of setting up each establishment, the capacity you require but also ensuring a variety of things to buy. Each new city provides an increasingly devilish challenge. Can you make it all the way to the biggest metropoles?
It's an intriguing puzzle game about managing the complex system. But also, it's a look at how business control people on the high street or shopping mall. It offers a chance to think critically about the decisions we make about buying things, with a first hand taste of what it's like to run a business.
