Play OverviewPlay Overview

Skyblock (2011) is a game played on Minecraft servers where you start on a bare island floating in the sky and must gather resources to thrive and reach other players. It's the Minecraft equivalent to being washed up on a desert island and is hugely popular. To win you need a great deal of Minecraft knowledge and technical know-how to create farms for resources and impressive bases. Its wide variety of maps and ways to play make it appealing to a large range of people, from creative builders to critical thinkers.

In most modes, you start off on a small island with only a tree and a chest of essential resources, including a bucket of lava and a bucket of water. From these humble beginnings, you can create a stone generator and start building. You need to take great care not to accidentally lose your lava or water, as you then have to restart.

Getting to grips with this unforgiving gameplay requires patience and determination. Once you've established yourself, you can use other resources to continue expanding; building farms that yield more resources, and repeating until you have built yourself an impressive base.

The sense of achievement you get from thriving in a Skyblock world offsets the difficulty of getting established and is a recipe that has remained popular throughout the years. If you want to play Skyblock, there are many servers you can play on, such as Hypixel or Skyblock.net, or you can download a single-player map if you prefer to play offline.

It's worth noting that the Hypixel Skyblock game mode is the most popular way to play this game. It greatly expands the core concept so that it is more like a large online role-play game like Skyrim. Here the focus is not so much on building islands but more on adventuring and role-playing where you can level up, trade items, take on quests and other familiar aspects of these online experiences.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Skyblock 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ben Kendall and updated 7 months ago.

Content Rating

Skyblock itself is considered user-generated content and falls outside the age ratings. However, Minecraft itself is rated PEGI 7 for Violence and Fear. The game's player character can encounter pixelated spiders, skeletons and zombies in a dark environment, which they can fight. They fall down and disappear in an unrealistic manner. Characters are pixelated and blocky with non-detailed faces.

User-Generated Content: This game includes content created by other players, such as maps, outfits and items, that are not reflected in the game rating.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. A reasonable prior knowledge of Minecraft's gameplay and mechanics is required to get items and craft farms, some very complex, to obtain resources otherwise unobtainable in the game mode.
