Play OverviewPlay Overview

Spelltower (2012)+ is a word-spotting game a little like Boggle mixed with Tetris. As you play, more tiles rise from the bottom of the screen so you need to pick good words to clear down the letters and avoid any letters make it to the top row.

Play involves dragging your finger across the letters to make words. The letters in the words you find can be connected in any direction. You can't repeat the same word on a level. Some tiles have a number in the corner that means they can only be included in words of at least that length.

The wordplay is combined with Tetris style tactics to keep the well of letters from getting too high. Each completing word removes tiles. You can clear blank tiles by making words next to them. There are also special tiles, like blue ones that clear a whole row when included in a word. Longer words also eliminate more tiles.

SpellTower has been released in many versions, Spell Tower, Spell Tower 2 and Spell Tower 3. SpellTower+ is the latest version. There are different modes to try. Classic modes Daily Tower, Tower, Puzzle, Rush and Zen are joined by new modes like Search, ExPuzzle, Double Puzzle, Bubble Puzzle, and Blitz mode.

The result is a game that all sorts of people will love. As the developer said, "I got into games because I wanted to connect with people in a positive way. I wanted to help people think critically and come away with more than they arrived with. Games felt like a way to do this on a huge scale, but the stories I heard from SpellTower players taught me that games do so much more for people than I ever expected."

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked SpellTower 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 2 years ago.
