Play OverviewPlay Overview

The Eternal Cylinder (2021) is a strategy game where you survive by evolving your creatures to adapt to the environment. Your herd explore a strange world filled with exotic lifeforms and environments. All the while a menacing firey cylinder rolls towards you.

What's unusual, apart from the strange cylindrical impending doom, is the scope and breadth of the world. Like the classic evolution game, Spore, it's a vast land full of unique intelligent animals, real-time world destruction, and organic exploration with puzzles designed to encourage you to overcome hazards, enemies and challenges in unique ways.

To succeed, you need to find other creatures to band together with, learn about the world around you, evolve to meet the challenges and mutate to obtain new traits that might help.

The world is teeming with over 30 handcrafted creatures that you need to get to know and learn how to utilise their behaviours to your advantage. This genetic pool combines with over 50 mutations that grant new abilities.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked The Eternal Cylinder 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 11 months ago.

Age RatingsAge Ratings

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for moderate violence to fantasy characters. Violence is generally non-realistic in nature, as are reactions to it. Impacts result in a reduction to health bars, without visible injury, and characters fall over when defeated and disintegrate into particles. However, one sequence, in particular, features more detailed and realistic-looking violence. The sequence depicts a fantasy creature, with a human-like body, being attacked by a laser. The attack results in parts of the creature's body and arm being blasted away. The game also features some scary elements, including the ever-present threat of the giant cylinder that is menacing the planet, as well as some surreal creatures that younger children may find disturbing.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Parental Guidance (PG) for Mild Fantasy Themes, Mild Fantasy Violence.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. You need to be able to cope with the strange world and find a way to make sense of it. This can work well for quite young players, because experimentation and repetition is a key part to progressing. However, the later stages of the game need more strategy skill and can frustrate youngsters who enjoyed the earlier stages.
