Play OverviewPlay Overview

The Forgotten City (2021) is a mystery adventure. You explore and relive the final days of a cursed Roman city, where if one person sins, everyone dies. It starts as a bewildering array of characters, locations and information but over multiple goes your exploration and deduction can slowly unravel what is going on and how to save the city.

Play involves a bit of combat, which is similar to The Elder Scrolls as it's based on this game, but violence will only get you so far. Your real task is questioning the interconnected community of characters to wheedle out the information you need to make your decisions.

This might prove fruitful for your current loop, or it may provide information useful for your next go around. Armed with this knowledge you have to make complex moral choices if you are to solve the epic mystery. How you tackle things, and the choices you make will determine the outcome for the city.

Along the way, you get to explore an open-world ancient Roman city with historically authentic art, architecture, costumes and customs. You investigate an intriguing and non-linear narrative with many endings. Grapple with moral dilemmas which have life-and-death consequences. It's a game that is both critically and commercially acclaimed. with over 3 million downloads.

The result is a game where you solve problems with reason, charm, bribery, intimidation, violence, or by cleverly exploiting the time-loop.

Rated PEGI 16 because it features strong violence. There is infrequent strong violence, including a man being set on fire by another person. He screams and flails about while he burns, before falling to the floor. During gameplay, the player is armed with a pistol or a bow and can shoot at other characters, who cry out and fall over. There are no visible wounds. In one scene a man ends his own life by dropping off a ledge. His body is not shown after the suicide. There is also sight of a statue of a man who has hanged himself. The player can be chased by partially decomposed figures, who beg to be released from their torment. Younger children may find this disturbing. The game also includes some Latin phrases featuring bad language and sex references.

Rated for younger players in the US. ESRB TEEN for Blood, Suggestive Themes, Alcohol Reference, Mild Language, Violence. From a first-person perspective, players interact with citizens, perform tasks/missions, and engage in/try to prevent violent acts: a man jumping from a ledge; assassins shooting players and citizens with arrows; players using a pistol to shoot characters. One sequence depicts a room with blood-covered skeletons and a bloodstained rack device. The game contains some suggestive material: graffiti referencing an orgy; a phallic charm; a character admonished to “keep it in your loincloth.” A handful of sequences depict beer or wine, and one mission involves fetching a wine bottle for a character. A handful of French and Latin phrases appear in the game (e.g., "merde," "genetricum fututor," "stercum edite").
