Play Overview
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (2014) is a running, exploring, puzzle game where you guide the Toad character to save Toadette from the villain Wingo and retrieve the Power Stars on each level. You navigate puzzles and obstacles, fighting enemies to reach the gold star at the end.
Each level is like a self-contained puzzle to solve. Using the camera, you look around the structures and find hidden areas that may contain coins or the gold star. Toad can pull up plants from the ground, find coins or turnips to throw at enemies and use his pickaxe to clear out certain obstacles and enemies. The levels for 3DS and Switch are identical.
On the Wii U, the gamepad touchscreen moves platforms. On both Wii U and 3DS you can blow into the microphone to activate platforms. All versions use motion controls to aim and shoot turnips while riding mine carts.
For younger players, there's a simple Find Pixel Toad mode where you explore each level to find a small pixel sticker of toad. You track your progress with this, as well as how many gems you have found on a book that records your results for each level.
