Play Overview
Letter² (2017) is a puzzle game where you place letters in a small grid and then swipe across words to score points and clear off the letters. Unlike other letter puzzles, you can't see what's coming next and you can't move letters once placed, which makes it a strategy about managing space and predicting the best positioning, as much as it is about vocabulary.
Play is simple. Place letters. Swipe Words. Clear the field. What's clever is that these limits force you to make decisions based on partial information. Strategies for dealing with awkward letters are required. Where do you place the third R in a row? In the middle to maximise word options, or on the side so as not to use up space.
As you progress you unlock the two-player mode and different shaped boards. You are also granted wildcard squares that can be used to be any letter in a word.
Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Letter² 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 9 months ago.
