Play OverviewPlay Overview

Steep (2016) is an extreme winter sports game set in a fully explorable Alps. You can ski, snowboard, paraglide or wingsuit (fly) down various mountains, with alternate pathways to explore and create. You gain experience points from performing tricks and combos in missions, story mode or open world. You can also earn in-game currency to spend on customizing your cosmetic appearance and equipment.

The various course missions range in play-styles and difficulty such as: Freestyler, Freerider, Extreme Rider, Pro Rider, Explorer and Bone Collector. While taking these on you can discover new drop zones and points of interest to explore while free riding.

The snowy alps are visually appealing, with realistic weather/snow effects as well as a daylight cycle that can be manually changed. You can create and share courses with friends, race each other down them and have a large amount of freedom in the open world.

Our examiner, Thom Robertson, first checked Steep 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 18 months ago.

It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. There is skill in the downhill racing, as well as progressing the story. Because you can attempt runs multiple times this can accommodate younger players quite well.
