Riptide GP: Renegade is a fast-paced racing game set in the underground hydro-jet racing scene. It takes extreme jet-ski action in a wacky direction, but there's a significant skill in manoeuvring your vehicle through tight twists and turns to achieve air time for stunts. It combines the thrill of high-speed racing with snowboarding-style ramps and tricks that increase your score.

This report is based on the latest game in the series, Riptide GR: Renegade. Previous games may differ in the features provided.

On mobile, you can swipe and touch the screen to control your character, or you can connect a controller. The controller/keyboard can be fully remapped on the relevant systems, including on mobile. The game is fast-paced, so you need to rapidly press buttons and sometimes press multiple buttons simultaneously, but holding down buttons is inevitable. The game is also fairly challenging and features no difficulty settings to make it easier.

Text is generally only in menus and is often low in contrast and small. Dialogue in the game is restricted to text boxes with an illustration of the speaker, with no voice acting. This text is high in contrast but still small.

Levels are easily navigable with clear routes, apart from occasional shortcuts, so navigation is never an issue.

There is no motion blur or depth of field, but the game has lots of screen shake effects as you race, occasional flashes, busy backgrounds, and lots of effects that can partially obscure the screen, like water droplets forming on the camera.
