Play OverviewPlay Overview

Boundary (2023) is an online shooting game set in zero-gravity environments where you work in teams to defeat your opponents. It sounds similar to other squad-based shooting games, but the lack of gravity takes away any sense of orientation. Play moves quickly in all directions as you struggle to avoid the hulls of massive space stations and find cover from enemy fire. It stands out for this disorienting traversal that combines both Star Wars Squadrons and Squad.

You play a member of a team of astronauts who use guns, abilities and items to defeat the opposing team in a range of challenges: capturing a specific area of a derelict space station, a race to get to a certain number of kills or the last team standing.

These modes lean into zero-gravity environments with players needing to use jetpacks, grappling hooks and other tools to gain the upper hand. The ability to move in any combination of the six principal directions means you have more ways to sneak up on opponents, but you must also be constantly watching all around you in case someone from the opposing team does the same. This makes clear and precise communication, a genre staple, essential as you continually update your teammates of any obstacles or foes they may not have seen.

The result is a unique take on the team-based shooter genre that incorporates the zero-g and movement of flight combat games with the communication, teamwork and intuition required to experiment with ambitious new strategies for defeating the opposing team.

Our examiner, Ben Kendall, first checked Boundary 13 months ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated a year ago.
