Play OverviewPlay Overview

Brok The Investigator (2022) is a point-and-click narrative adventure set in a cyberpunk future where animals have replaced humans. Play is an unusual combination of finding and combining items along with action fights and exploration. It stands out for the 1990s feel and the need to switch interaction (genre) modes to progress through your investigations.

The world is divided between the privileged citizens living under a protective dome from air pollution and others struggling to make a living on the outside. You play Brok, a private detective and former boxer living with Graff, the son of his deceased wife. You take on cases to help the people you meet, but more interesting is how these missions take a toll on your relationships and slowly uncover the bigger threats of this corrupted world.

Play is divided into two modes. You can switch between point-and-click puzzles and real-time action. Using both these aspects of play is required to find a way forward and solve your cases. Sometimes you need to use your brain and sometimes your brawn.

The result is a surprisingly deep and emotional narrative with characters reminiscent of classic 80s/90s cartoons. The combination of the Classic Adventure and Beat'em up elements is a novel addition, although it's really the point-and-click element that works best.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Brok the Investigator 12 months ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 5 weeks ago.
