OverviewOverview

Day Z (DayZ) is a post-apocalyptic open world survival game. The population are infected with an unknown virus and you play as one of the few who are immune. You fight other survivors for limited resources and weapons. However If you die there are no extra lives and you have to start over.

Some compelling features of the game include: dynamic weather, day and night cycle, the infected and animal predators, hunting and crafting, injury stimulation, the ability to build and improve bases and drive vehicles for travel and material transport.

The game offers a sand box world where players can use their skill and knowledge of the game to survive using different strategies. There are guns and fighting but this has to be carefully weighed against risk and cost.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 18 due to strong violence and violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters. The strongest violence is self-inflicted, an in-game sub-menu provides a number of activities that the player’s character can be instructed to carry out, they are almost all quite benign except for the item entitled ‘suicide’. For no explicable reason the character can be made to commit suicide by a shot to the head using a handgun or rifle, impalement using a sword or pitchfork or using a D.I.Y spear consisting of a pole with a knife attached to one end that is pushed up through the throat and into the head. The game features scenes of smoking which are presented as a neutral activity.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Mature Accompanied (MA 15+) for Violence, Strong Themes.
