Play OverviewPlay Overview

Disney Illusion Island (2023) is a running and jumping game where you play Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald in an original adventure. As you explore, you use their unique abilities to traverse water, land and air. It's Cuphead meets Rayman but with the charm, sound and immersion of a classic Disney cartoon with approachable platforming challenges and puzzles.

When the island kingdom of Monoth is endangered, it's up to you to travel to the three biomes and retrieve the Books of Knowledge. You do this by running and jumping across platforms and avoiding obstacles as you control one of the four characters. Unlike similar style games, rather than attack enemies you avoid them which makes for less violent play - although you do indirectly attack and turn to stone the big boss enemies.

Each character has a unique ability that you use to progress, be that by swinging across gaps, gliding through the air, or swimming through water. To make it to the end of each stage, you need to keep switching between the characters and using their abilities to unlock the path for the other three.

The result is a charming game that combines the hand-drawn aesthetic, orchestral score and lighthearted story of a Disney cartoon with simple yet engaging challenges to offer a fun way to get started with the platforming genre, and the cooperative multiplayer makes it a great way to play with the whole family.

Characters can be harmed by obstacles and environmental hazards such as spikes, laser beams and fiery projectiles. When hit, there's a comical sound effect and the character loses a heart. They are never visibly injured. Some sequences, such as boss encounters and scenes, can be a little intense, with characters behaving threateningly and the use of sinister music.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE for Mild Fantasy Violence. From a side-scrolling perspective, players explore 2D levels, solve puzzles, and avoid various enemies (e.g., cacti, plants, fantastical creatures). Players defeat bosses by performing a series of platforming objectives to drop large objects onto bosses' heads.

Skill Level

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. You need to change between the four characters, using each's unique ability to help you move forward. Sometimes, it isn't entirely obvious how to progress, so some thought is occasionally required. Mostly you avoid enemies rather than fighting them. Although the bosses are defeated (and then turn to stone rather than die).

Played with parent and child there are great features to adjust difficulty for each player individually. Also, you can gift your energy with a hug and even let down a rope that a stuck player can then climb up.
