Play Overview
The games have a quirky sense of humour, which can help reduce the suspense. While the premise may sound goofy, beneath the surface is a mystery involving kidnappings, child-murders and revenge. As Nadia Oxford writes, it's "a twisted tale that not only involves murder and deceit, but also a broken family that tries to project itself as normal with depressingly limited success".
This narrative, combined with the unique point and click gameplay, has made the franchise the success it is, with many communities on the internet devoted to solving its intertwining and complex story that now also spans books and, soon, a film.

It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. Pre-teenagers are often keen on the mild horror stories around Five Nights at Freddy's.
