Gears of War is a series of shooting game about a conflict between humanity, the subterranean reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde, and their mutated counterparts, the Lambent. It's a big brash game franchise with six games, a comic book series and five novels.

You play over the shoulder of a buff soldier using a range of brutal weapons. There's a focus on moving forward tactically to use cover. When you take damage a red fog fades into the screen. It's frantic and exuberant and designed to be fun of the Saving Private Ryan kind.

Games in the Gears of War series are as follows:
  • Gears of War (2006) 360, Xbox One
  • Gears of War 2 (2008) 360
  • Gears of War 3 (2011) 360
  • Gears of War: Judgment (2013) 360
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (2015) Xbox One remastered version of the original game
  • Gears of War 4 (2016) PC, Xbox One
  • Gears 5 (2019) PC, Xbox One
  • Gears Tactics (2020) PC, Xbox One

Gears of War 5 offers a Campaign alongside various other modes: Escape the bomb, Versus Teams, Horde Battles with Four friends. It also has a map builder to create your own experiences to share with and challenge your friends.
