Gerda: A Flame in Winter (2022) is a narrative adventure game set in the small Danish village. Gerda's quiet life is turned upside down during the World War 2 occupation of her home. You choose where to go, how to act, and who to trust. It stands out for the way you must balance relationships that span both sides at a time of war.

You play Gerda, who must try to save her loved ones while staying true to herself. You move around the world and respond to questions and decisions. Each choice is challenging and has consequences. You use a mix of exploration, dialog, and resource and relationship management to shape personality traits and skills that determine your connection with others and how the story unfolds.

It's a light touch role play, that takes a different approach to the experience of war. It's a game played not on the front line, but in the intimate small Danish village with only your wits and knowledge of people to survive. As you make choices you affect how you relate to the people you encounter and the competing (often hard hitting) aspects of wartime survival.

The result is a branching story of compassion, community, and courage, inspired by real life experiences and events.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Gerda: A Flame in Winter 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 6 weeks ago.
