Golfing Over It (2018) with Alva Majo is a traversal game where you try to hit a golf ball to the top of a mountain. It's an intentionally tough, discouraging game that you will fail at over and over. Like Getting Over It (Bennett Foddy has played this game and granted it his blessing.), it stands out for the monumental challenge it offers for those with the skill and patience to tackle it.
As you play you listen to the developer Alva, explain why he made such a cruel game. "Fall all the way back to the bottom. And if you manage to get to the top? Will that make you feel good? Will you feel that it's all been worth it? I think you will." It stays a simple challenge, but you slowly learn how to hit the ball multiple times in the air as you progress further.
The result is a game that rests entirely on the skill of the player to use the simple golf-hitting mechanic to traverse to the top. If you fail, and you will, you only have yourself to blame.
