Play OverviewPlay Overview

Gunman Tales (2018) is a retro light-gun shooting game where 4 players target enemies to hit them before they get shot. You control your moving and aiming with a single stick, so the fun is about working within these limits to survive each level. It stands out not only for the retro feel but the simple shooting that grows into a surprisingly deep mechanical challenge.

You're a bounty hunter on a mission to find the Legendary Lost Treasure. Play involves searching to find the four pieces of the map for access to the Golden Valley. You do this by moving from cover to cover while aiming and shooting your gun. As you progress you take on mini-games to catch enemies, win money in games of cards, survive the wolves and upgrade your weapons. Do well and you can steal gold and useful items from the enemies to enhance your abilities.

The result is a game some will find too simple, but for newcomers and younger players, this is a great way to try shooting challenges with a cowboy theme.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for non-detailed and non-realistic violence towards non-detailed human-like characters. This game features mild and unrealistic violence in the form or arcade-style shoot-outs between pixelated human and fantasy characters. Characters flash and grunt when hit but no blood or injuries are shown. Players can wager coins in a saloon on the very simple game of ‘hi-lo’, in which they guess whether the next card to appear will be higher or lower in value than the previous card. If they correctly guess three times in a row, they win the pot. However, this is not a traditional means of gambling, such as casino games, and no useful or novel information about how to gamble or bet is given.

It was originally rated PEGI 18 for Simulated Gambling, a VSC Rating Board examiner checked the game and it has been changed to PEGI 7 for violence as described above.

There is a game of solitaire in the game that teaches you how to gamble. This results in the PEGI 18 rating in Europe rather than the shooting violence or blood.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Provided you can deal with moving and avoiding bullets while also aiming your gun you can enjoy this. It's a good way to try out shooting and moving games without needing to deal with full moving around as this is limited to two dimensions here - controlled with a single stick and buttons.
