Play OverviewPlay Overview

Halo Infinite (2021) is the latest release in the longstanding Halo series of first-person shooting games. This latest entry continues the story, while adding new abilities, such as the grapple and weapons, differentiating it from the other games and adding a new layer of strategy and tactics. It also has a large open world, which you explore as you play through the story which focuses on responsibility, regret, and grief.

The game takes place on the faraway world of Zeta Halo. The main story has you exploring the verdant world, unlocking new areas as you fight progressively harder enemies that adapt to the way you play. There are also a variety of different multiplayer modes, which allow you to fight, or work with, other players, in team missions.

The gameplay remains largely similar to previous entries, but Infinite adds several new power-ups and abilities, notably a grapple gun, which you can strategically use to make a quick escape from a losing battle, collect weapons from afar, or quickly swoop in to finish off an opponent. You can collect and unlock vehicles, such as tanks, aircraft and buggies that can give you the edge, by completing side quests such as rescuing stranded marines.

With a varied and unique map to explore, a unique setting and story, many upgrades, weapons and power-ups to collect and more, it serves as both a detailed and unique progression of the Halo franchise, while also acting as an accessible starting point for newcomers to both the genre and the series.

Our examiner, Ben Kendall, first checked Halo Infinite 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Oli Hawkins and updated a year ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for Violence. Violence during gameplay involves alien characters being shot, resulting in realistic physical reactions and pained sounds, but little or no blood and no injuries depicted. When the player's character is hit, the first person nature of the game means any damage is largely indicated through sound effects and statistics on the player's display, rather than through explicit visuals. Cinematic sequences do show close-up hand-to-hand combat, with realistic physical reactions to beatings and being thrown, but no explicit wound details. Dead bodies can be examined, with some blood depicted but no graphic injuries. The game also includes use of bad language, including 'b*stards' and 'p*ssed'.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB TEEN for Blood, Mild Language and Violence. Players use firearms, grenades, and laser swords to kill opponents in head-to-head battle. Combat is highlighted by explosions, frequent gunfire, and cries of pain. Human characters emit small puffs of blood when injured. The words “a*s” and “p*ssed” appear in the game.
