Hyper Demon (2022) is a fast, frantic and psychedelic shooting game set in a dream-like disembodied future. You play by moving and shooting to survive the many incoming threats.
It's a game that plays with reality, both by bombarding the player with visual intensity but also by asking them to deal with threat through quick and decisive movement. You see the world through a spherical projection that offers wide peripheral vision and the feel of looking through the eye of an insect. There's even a holographic "rear view" overlay to offer near 360-degree sensory awareness of threats.
The minimal controls work in tandem with the game's fluid physics to enable you to find new and inventive ways to survive. This is extended with a plethora of weapons and abilities that open the door to complex and spectacular combinations of attacks and movement.
The result is a game that is both visually stunning and highly competitive. Do well enough and you are placed on the leaderboard for other players to see not only your score but a replay of your run.
