The Hyrule Warriors series of games are hack and slash action games, set in the Legend of Zelda Universe and focussed primarily on close combat against large groups of enemies. The latest in the series Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, merges the frenetic close combat action of the series, with the visual style and setting from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set during the Great Calamity, 100 years before Link awakens at the beginning of Breath of the Wild, when the armies of Hyrule clashed with the forces of Calamity Ganon, ultimately resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. Throughout the game you'll get the chance to control Link and a variety of familiar Legend of Zelda characters, including Zelda herself and the gigantic Divine Beasts that played an important role in the main plot of Breath of the Wild.

Although combat is the primary focus of the game, you'll also be required to complete specific objectives and take strategic actions, such as capturing bases and commanding troops. The game is further expanded with its crafting and weapon upgrade system, as well as adding in some environmental puzzles. Breath of the Wild players will also get to reacquaint themselves with the Sheikah Slate, paraglider and a number of other familiar elements from the game.

Age of Calamity will also feature compatibility with Nintendo's Four Champions amiibo, continuing the series support for the figures dating back to the first game on the Wii U.
