Play OverviewPlay Overview

Junk Art (2016) is a dexterity game where you create art from little pieces of junk. Each round has different rules for how to build the best tower, but they all combine to become an aesthetic and dexterity challenge. It's a game that takes Jenga-style balancing in a more tactical and competitive direction.

Play involves working to fulfil different criteria each round to create your artwork based on the cards you receive. This might be to copy the layout on the card or use junk specified on your cards to build with. The challenge is not only to build your structure with these strangely shaped objects but to balance what you build on the tiny plinth to ensure the junk doesn't touch the table.

As you progress you soon learn that you need to carefully pick which pieces to build with next so that it works with your existing build. You can points for matching colours and shapes touching each other which adds a risk-reward dimension to play. Then there are points for the tallest tower.

The result is a game that takes tower-building games to the next level. It combines dexterity with puzzle solving and the ability to force other players to use tricky-shaped junk. The diverse challenges mean it's not only about steady hands but also lateral thinking and sneakiness.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Junk Art 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated yesterday.
