Play Overview
Killbug (2023) is a fast and frantic shooting and traversal game where you are an insect shooting and slashing waves of ravenous enemies. Play is a combination of quick shooting and par core-style movement to get the jump on your multi-legged competitors. It's a simple game that stands out for how the weapons, movement and enemies combine to create a flowing, at times balletic, battle.
The other insects clipped your wings and forced you into exile, and now lie in wait to ambush you. As the Killbug, you use your instincts to dash, double-jump and wall-run your way around this world. Keeping moving is the key and, if possible, getting higher than your prey. Some parts of the map are hard to reach, but there are no barriers apart from mastering the movement to get to where you need to be.
As you progress you learn how your two weapons work together and maximise your height. Your main weapon is your gun which slowly gains more bullets but will soon be empty in a fight. You gain bullets by landing attacks with your sword. That sword attack also lets you dash towards an enemy which can be combined with your double jump to maximise your time in the air, which in turn grants a firepower bonus.
The result is a game that is brutal and bloody, but absent of human enemies. This keeps things gross but also keeps the violence in check. Battle a huge range of bugs with your single weapons and parry to work your way onto the global leaderboards, or compete to knock your friends off the top spot.
