Last Defense! is a game about saving a city from alien invasion in just twenty minutes. You play by rolling dice and moving to stop the invading monsters, free Scientists from the rubble and discover Tools. It's a simple combination of cooperative strategy brought to life by the game's real-time audio news bulletins that announce where threats are attacking.

To defend the city you work together to build a stock of Tools and Scientists to defeat the four Monsters that randomly appear in different locations. The game is managed with an app so you're on the clock and need to be quick to roll (and re-roll if you want) so you can move and use the right Tool cards to uncover Scientists from the rubble.

The app keeps track of your progress and the ever-depleting twenty minutes of playtime. Being quick and well-coordinated as a team results in being better prepared for when the app signals the next monster appears. To deal with monsters you use specific Scientist tokens that you have (hopefully) already uncovered. Part of the trick is exchanging Tools with other players to ensure the best character has what they need to free the Scientists and then get them back to the Plaza zone to defeat the Monster.

The result is a fun and tense cooperative game where you need to be efficient and collaborative. The app soundtrack and commentary are different each time you play, which adds excitement and unexpected scenarios.

  • Test out how re-rolling dice is useful but also eats time.
  • Check out how different characters can access zones without needing the usual Flare tool.
  • Talk through the importance of trading tools so the right player has what they need to free Scientists.

Age RatingsAge Ratings

Skill Level

6+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Although older players can play with more strategy, even very young children can enjoy the monster invasion and work with others on the team to defeat them. They do need to be able to cope with the ticking timer adding more pressure.

Content Rating

We rate this suitable for 7+ years-olds.

The game includes cards with pictures of spiders, giant tentacles and space aliens. Characters are depicted wielding makeshift weapons like spades and pliers. Throughout, these are cartoony and comedic.
