Play Overview
Majotori (2017) is a trivia brain game with a twist. Your trivia answers determines the fates of a collection of characters throughout their lives as they call upon a mysterious witch to grant their wishes. Getting too many answers wrong dooms them to horrible fates, while answering most of the questions correctly can make all their dreams come true.
Each round begins by choosing a character and discovering what's happening in their life. You then earn Right/Wrong symbols by answering back-to-back questions (cinema, video games, anime, and miscellaneous) while upbeat jazz tunes play. A symbol is then drawn randomly from your pile to help or hinder your new friend. The more answers you get wrong, the higher the chance of something bad happening.
It's a simple yet satisfying game. After each trivia round you learn what happened next in your character's story. Then, each round you select another character, maybe someone new or maybe someone you helped/hindered previously. The sense of influencing the entire course of a person’s life brings real tension to your answers. It's on you to determine the opportunities they have, whether they realize their dream life, or if their story even continues at all.
