Play OverviewPlay Overview

Marvel's Spider-Man is a series of superhero adventures where you swing through an open-world city fighting crime and advancing a film-like story. There are also many side quests and missions you can take along the way.

When you encounter enemies you fight them with Spider-Man's superhero powers. This focuses on chaining attacks together and using the environment and webs to incapacitate numerous foes while avoiding damage. As you progress you unlock new moves and abilities.

Like Arkham Batman Arkham the combat is exuberant and enjoyable while the wider game offers an almost endless array of different things to do in your crime-fighting character.

The second game in the series is Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. You return to the web-swinging action but as Miles Morales rather than Peter Parker, stepping into his shoes after he has gone.

Age RatingsAge Ratings

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for frequent scenes of moderate violence. Violence is typical of the Spider-Man series games with realistic close quarter combat combined with exaggerated, slow motion action. Blood and injuries are depicted and the fallen remain on the field of play.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB TEEN for Blood, Drug Reference, Language, Violence. From a third-person perspective, players fight crime, swing around buildings, and engage in melee combat with various thugs. Characters mostly punch, kick, and throw each other during fights; some enemy characters also use pistols and machine guns. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, impact sounds, and occasional slow-motion sequences. One cutscene depicts a character in the background shooting himself in the head; another cutscene depicts a mugger shooting an innocent character (just out of frame). Some missions/plotlines involve drug deals and “designer narcotics”; one scene briefly shows a duffel bag full of white packages of the drug. The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.

Skill Level

11+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Although younger children will enjoy swinging around, the skill to progress the story and complete missions mean that you need to be a bit older to really get the most from this. Although combat is hard-hitting you can cope with these by "mashing" buttons.
