Play OverviewPlay Overview

Mineko's Night Market (2023) is a narrative-driven adventure where you help a village at the base of Mount Fugu thrive. You explore the Japanese-inspired world, collecting items and completing tasks to make items to sell at the market. It stands out for its simple challenges, collection and thriving night market, all wrapped up in a hand-painted art style.

You play Mineko, a girl helping her island community develop and navigate old superstitions about worshipping the Sun Cat, Nikko. It's a social simulation game where your conversations, crafting and enterprise have an impact on the community. You explore the Japanese-inspired island manage your daily activities, complete different jobs and quests, and craft items in preparation for the weekly Night Market.

As you progress you discover the secrets behind the town and restore the struggling village to its former glory. The Night Market is the centre of things, not only a place to buy and sell, but where you compete in mini-games like themed parades, cat racing, and stage performances.

The result is a game that invites exploration. As you do the seasons change, the locals grow and develop and the mysteries of the Sun Cat are slowly discovered. Just watch out for the agents trying to keep things under wraps.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Mineko's Night Market a year ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 3 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 3. There are mini-games which involve the player's character avoiding secret agents. If the player's character is caught, the screen simply fades to black, with no indication of harm. In an introductory scene, the player's character is seen being caught by her jacket and wriggling to escape, although once again there is no harm seen or actual violence. The game features frequent use of very mild terms such as 'jerk', 'heck' and 'darn'.

The nature of the community simulation play does revolve around buying and selling items at the market to grow the island.

Skill Level

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Younger players can enjoy exploring the island and collecting things to sell. The combination of exploration and mini-games works well for them. To engage with the main story and mystery there is quite a bit of reading.
