Play OverviewPlay Overview

My Summer Car (2016) is a strategy game about doing up a broken-down car over one long summer. It sounds simple, but the level of detail is the attraction here. You start the game with hundreds of loose parts and assemble both your car and engine. Not only do you own, build, fix and tune your car but then do all manner of other life simulator things with your new wheels.

Every part matters in this hyper-detailed car maintenance simulator. You need not only the right parts but the right tools to fit them. It's a game that's been around for a number of years and has developed to include the wider life of the car mechanic as well as the car-fixing challenge.

As you progress, if things go well you build a working car and take it out on the open road in the Finnish countryside. Work to get extra money and you can tune and upgrade your ride with the parts you order. Maybe you want a bass-boom disco machine. Maybe you want a rally car to race. Maybe you need something for the school run. How you fix your car is up to you.

The result is a game that sets the impossible task of building a car from scratch. A big part of the phenomenon here is that there are so many players who want to take on assembling a car with over a hundred parts.

Our examiner, Jo Robertson, first checked My Summer Car 18 months ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 11 months ago.

Content Rating

This game has not yet been rated, but we anticipate it is likely to be rated PEGI 12.

The developers state: "This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: General Mature Content." You can do things like drive when the car is not safe, or drive under the influence of alcohol. You can urinate, and if you do that up into the air you can drink it.

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Players need considerable resilience for the take-no-prisoners challenge. Research outside of the game is important, as is an attention to detail.
