The focus is on playfulness rather than winning. You can solve the various tasks using dozens of items and unique characters but you don't have to follow a single designated path. This means that it's fun to play multiple times to see how things unfold (and to work to earn all 45 achievements).
You can play the game at your own pace, solving the various tasks using dozens of items and unique characters without being obliged to follow a single designated path. It's all handcrafted and animated with countless humorous and unexpected outcomes.

Rated 12+ on App Store for Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor, Mild Alcohol Use, Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence.
There are two usable items in the game that resemble alcoholic beverages. As for fantasy violence, in some situations, a character may attack/hit their opponent, but with no sign of blood. The game always maintains a family-friendly fairy-tale style.
5+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Very young players may need some help navigating, but can enjoy picking cards for the different characters and working out what they need.
Pilgrims does not have a tutorial or provide guidance on how to proceed, much of the gameplay is focused around figuring out what you can do with the cards and characters. There is no formal hint system, but there are faint images on the achievement cards that give some clues at other things you can try.
