Pompom is a running and jumping game where you are a hamster on a mission to save your owner from an evil cat. However, you don't control the hamster but place platforms (and springs, whips, umbrellas, cannons) to ensure he can progress.

The hamster has his own movement as he explores and jumps his way through the level. You need to get to understand this behaviour so you can move platforms and items to provide a safe way forward. Drop springs, build bridges, slash vines and illuminate ghosts. As you progress you work through 8 worlds including outer space, beaches full of flying fish and ancient temples inside deep jungles.

You collect the blocks and items to use in the level by defeating enemies and bursting bubbles. Use every item at your disposal: fly out of cannons, swing on ropes, slash vines, splash honey, freeze time and much more. It takes time to use them, but you only have a limited amount of time for these decisions.

The result is a really unusual platform game where quick reactions and precise jumps are left to Pompom to execute, while you take the role of a level designer.

Skill Rating

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. This is good for children who aren't use to tight timed button presses. The placement of platforms and items is still skilled and needs quick thinking but the game does pause while you do this (for a while).

You can increase the number of chances you have and the duration of the pause. The game doesn't apply limited lives, so you only lose minimal progress and can retry as many times as you want.

In the later levels you need good reaction times as some elements don't pause.

If you get stuck the game suggests you restart from the previous checkpoint with some instructions on how to do that.

Most text is high contrast. Occasionally some text is less high contrast.

You control the game mostly with mouse, with the addition of certain actions optionally on keys. You can't remap the keys but you can use Shift/Space/Right-Mouse to pause time and A-D/Left-Right/Z-X/Scroll Wheel to change selected item. You need to use the left click on the mouse to place items.
