OverviewOverview

Puyo Puyo Champions (Puyo Puyo eSports in Japan) is the latest in a puzzle game series where you line up slime-like Puyo creatures who fall from the top of the screen. The trick is to rotate the groups of two, three, and four colours to line up with those already in play. When four or more line-up they connect and pop. You can achieve more points and bonuses by chaining colours together. Play is hindered when opponents send out nuisance Puyo that get in the way of lining up colours.

Puyo Puyo Champions has 24 characters each with their distinct playstyle and patterns. You can also personalize your in-game profile image, with over a hundred different player characters. It includes a choice of puzzle mechanics from Puyo Puyo Tsu and Puyo Puyo Fever.

Puyo Puyo was first released in 1992, recent versions of the game include the following:
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris (2014)
  • Puyo Puyo Chronicle (2016)
  • Puyo Puyo Champions (2018)
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 (2020)

Puyo Puyo Champions has recently added a Spectator mode to watch matches between other players online and send support stamps before a match.

Recent updates added more settings. This was driven partly by competitive eSports aspect of the game but also with some good general accessibility enhancements.

Colour Adjustment lets you choose colour calibration for Trichromatism, Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia as well as adjust colour strength. Game Speed option lets you pick normal, 2/3 and 1/2 speed Changing this setting does not affect how a match starts and ends, the fall speed of Nuisance Puyo, or Quick Drop time. In addition to the "Comeback Assist", there are Settings that offer Sweet, Super Sweet or Auto Play. This enables the computer to automatically perform up to 10 drops once you have done 5 of your own.
