Play OverviewPlay Overview

Retreat to Enen (2022) is a peaceful survival game where you explore a tropical island and make your life there. With no hostile creatures, you craft a base that must exist alongside nature rather than treating it as an endless resource. The ecological premise is furthered by guided meditation zones you with real-world breathing exercises to create an experience that aims to bring harmony and peace.

In the year 3600, humanity is nearly extinct due to its own greed and exploitation of earth's resources. Realising their mistake, the survivors task young people to become one with nature on the island of Enen. You explore the tropical beaches and underwater havens of the shoreline, the dense redwood forests, and the frozen wastes of the island, gathering the resources you need to craft a home using your high-tech tools. You hunt animals for food and pelts, only taking what you need, and learn to build alongside nature rather than destroy it.

As you explore, you find frequent meditation points where you can sit down and practice breathing exercises designed to help you calm down and relax in real life. You also find the ruins of former civilisations, reminding you of the consequences of exploitation and corruption. As there are no threats from wild animals or deadly locales, you're free to explore at your own pace, taking in small details like the crunch of snow underfoot or the chirp of birds above.

Although a little "on the nose", the result is actually a really peaceful experience. It offers enough challenge through resource collection and base creation, while also serving as a gentle reminder of our current responsibility for the natural world.
