Play OverviewPlay Overview

SokoChess (2022) is a puzzle about pushing chess pieces into place. You use your white pieces to push the black pieces to their destination, but must avoid being taken as you do it. It's an unusual take on Sokoban block-pushing puzzles, not least because your abilities depend in which chess piece you start with.

You play by selecting one of your pieces and then moving it in accordance with chess rules. Here though, you aim to push the other pieces into specific destinations rather than take them. To do this takes considerable care and circumnavigation to avoid being taken by other pieces.

Things start simply but soon ramp up. You have to be careful where you end your move as the other pieces attack in the same way as a traditional chess game. However, this isn't always a bad thing if you have your other pieces ready to then push them into place.

The result is a head-scratching 70 levels of puzzling fun. You can always undo any mistakes or just skip a level you are stuck on. It's unique and works surprisingly well, showing the enduring versatility of chess pieces moves.
