Play OverviewPlay Overview

Star Wars Battlefront II (2004) is a multiplayer shooting game based on the Star Wars films. There have been four games in the series, each one similar to the main Battlefield series. The latest main version is Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), which features gameplay from each trilogy's era. It stands out for a surprisingly complete story for a multiplayer game, as well as the ability to live out your childhood Star Wars fantasies of Darth Vader fighting General Grievous or Kylo Ren fighting Yoda.

2017's Battlefront II offers a single-player story mode, an online multiplayer mode and a customizable character class system. The story is set Between the time of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and follows a disillusioned Imperial commander from the destruction of the second Death Star to the rise of the First Order.

The multiplayer, which is where most of the game's content is, lets you fight alongside and against other players as different heroes and villains across different locations from across the Star Wars galaxy. The single-player campaign and sheer volume of Star Wars characters, vehicles and locations is a big reason people enjoy this.

The older Battlefront games were published by Lucasarts, there was then a long gap until the new games developed by EA, which (confusingly) share the same names as the originals. A combined remaster of the original Lucasarts Battlefront games was announced in 2024 as Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, featuring 64-player multiplayer.

This is an Action and Shooting game with Adventure and Narrative elements. You can play with 1 to 2 players in the same room or as a 64-player online game. Battlefront II (2017) provides an arcade mode where 2 players can work together to beat other units. There are co-operative modes for 4 people online that offer large scale adventure against a team of computer controlled enemies. This enables you to participate in large battles across the Clone Wars planets gaining Battle Points as you progress to unlock more characters to play.

Also, a big draw for these games are the online multiplayer battles. Star Wars Battlefront II features twelve of these for up to 40 players online, along with an additional 24 computer controlled players.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection features 64-player online multiplayer and 2-player local co-op play, with cross-play across console generations only (ie. PlayStation 5 players can play with PlayStation 4 players, but not Xbox, PC, or Switch players).
