Play Overview
Suzerain (2020) is a role-play strategy game where you are the president of the fictional country, Sordland. By choosing conversations and life path you use your skills of persuasion and political values to reform your country after the downfall of a dictator.
Most of the game is choosing your responses in conversations. Though this starts out with information gathering, you are eventually able to accept or decline bribes, dissuade others from pursuing their goals and make your own decisions about reform and the country’s constitution.
More than just a political drama, Suzerain lets you craft an individual narrative for the president of Sordland from the get-go. You choose how he reacts to key personal, social and political events leading up to his election; which in turn affects all aspects of the game.
The dense text of this game is best suited for mature players who don’t mind reading long letters, manifestos and wordy conversations. The expanse of information at your fingertips is key for the complex world-building and makes for a believable political experience. This offers an educational opportunity for anyone wanting to expand their understanding of foreign policy, relationship building and the dynamics of a cabinet or senate.
Our examiner, Ellen Robertson, first checked Suzerain 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 2 years ago.
