Suzerain is a role-play strategy game where you are the president of the fictional country, Sordland. By choosing conversations and life path you use your skills of persuasion and political values to reform your country after the downfall of a dictator.

Most of the game is choosing your responses in conversations. Though this starts out with information gathering, you are eventually able to accept or decline bribes, dissuade others from pursuing their goals and make your own decisions about reform and the country’s constitution.

More than just a political drama, Suzerain lets you craft an individual narrative for the president of Sordland from the get-go. You choose how he reacts to key personal, social and political events leading up to his election; which in turn affects all aspects of the game.

The dense text of this game is best suited for mature players who don’t mind reading long letters, manifestos and wordy conversations. The expanse of information at your fingertips is key for the complex world-building and makes for a believable political experience. This offers an educational opportunity for anyone wanting to expand their understanding of foreign policy, relationship building and the dynamics of a cabinet or senate.

Content Rating

This game has not yet been rated, but we anticipate it is likely to be rated PEGI 12.

Although not yet rated, the game addresses political issues of policing and population reform so is suited for older teenagers.

Suzerain is primarily played through reading text and making choices, including background text provided in reports, newspapers, etc. While the text is all high contrast, it is not very large. There are no text size adjustments available and no voice acting.

There is an extensive log that keeps track of information you may need and links it together very well, with graphical organizers and cross references that all make a complex cast of characters and events easier to track. There is also shortcut button to immediately access relevant entries about the characters, places, events, and other significant features anytime they are mentioned in dialog or reports, which helps lower the cognitive load of remembering the detailed lore while you are making the important choices that drives the game forward.
