Tell Me Why is a narrative game following the story of twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan, as they unravel the truth about their childhood and why they were separated. It's a story about the impact of families and the lengths we go to make them right.

Played by exploring locations, interacting with objects and talking to residents, the twins revisit their Alaska home and relive supernatural projections helping build a narrative to what happened. Your choices influence the story, such as when they see different projections of the past, you can choose which one you believe to be true.

As well as guiding what characters say and do, you can influence their sexuality through multiple choices through the game. Protagonist Tyler is Transgender, something of a first for a big budget video game. It offers a new way to understand this experience of gender identity. The developer and Xbox Game Studios conducted on-the-ground research and partnered closely with cultural, mental health and gender advocates to craft a thoughtful, true-to-life experience.

Rated PEGI 16 with Bad Language

In the US, ESRB state: One dramatic sequence depicts a character stabbed in the back; blood is seen on another character's hands. The dialogue contains a reference to drugs (e.g., “Didn't Tessa bust Dan for smoking weed behind the store once?”). The words “f**k” and "sh*t" are heard in the game.

All of the dialog and cinematics in Tell Me Why are fully-voiced with large, clear, high-contrast subtitle and closed captioning options available. However, some of the puzzles in the game involve the Book of Goblins. which has very small text that is extremely hard to read due to the size and artistic design. There is a "read" option that makes a text box appear for each page with that you can scroll through, and while this increases legibility significantly the text is still smaller than the rest of the game and not adjustable. There is an option to turn on a Dyslexia-Friendly font.
