OverviewOverview

Ten Dates is a role-playing game where you search for love in a series of speed dates. A sequel to Five Dates, real video footage and actors depict the story depending on what you say. Seeing your decisions affect the outcome and discovering all the different possibilities, along with a focus on diversity and representation makes this an engaging dating simulator.

You play Misha and her best friend Ryan, who she tricks into participating in a speed-dating event. You both meet five potential partners, with a representation of disability, neurodiversity, and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and must quickly strike up a conversation in the hope of discovering a deep bond. What starts as a slightly awkward and embarrassing scenario (all the more so because of the video-footage nature of the game) soon becomes a deep dive into the complexities of romance, with deep questions, introspection, and hard truths coming to light.

The game plays out through a series of short videos of the conversations between you and your dates. You select questions to ask them and choose different responses to the questions you're asked in turn; depending on what you say, videos that continue the story in different ways proceed to play out, with a total of twelve hours of videos making up countless branching paths.

The result is a unique expansion of the formula first presented in Five Dates, offering a complex look at the world of romance from both a male and female perspective, challenging your own preconceptions about compatibility and prejudgement.

AccessibilityAccessibility

Our Ten Dates Accessibility Report documents 17 accessibility features:
There is no way to fail at any point in the game. By turning on Streamer Mode, you get unlimited time to make your choices. Your progress is only saved at occasional intervals.

Minimal reading is required because all the dialogue is voiced, but if you're playing with no sound you need to read the subtitles, which, although high contrast, are still fairly small even on the maximum text size setting. In addition, there is no indication of who is speaking in the subtitles themselves.

There is no spatial navigation in the game. At the start of the game, you need to choose which character to play as, where you can use the arrow keys or the mouse to choose, but this isn't indicated and, if using the mouse, you don't select by clicking on the two large pictures of the characters, but instead by clicking on their sideways name at the start of the screen. If, for example, you wanted to play as Misha, but Ryan was highlighted, if you click on Misha with the mouse, but Ryan is still selected as a click acts as confirmation here. This initial startup phase can be confusing to navigate through.

Because the game is made of real footage, there are frequent instances of motion blur, depth of field, busy backgrounds, screen shakes, and occasional flashes.

Diversity and InclusionDiversity and Inclusion

We have documented the following aspects of the game in terms of inclusion and representation. Let us know if we missed something. Although there are LGBTQIA+ characters in the game, both the characters you play are cisgender and heterosexual.

  • Choose Man/Boy or Woman/Girl: You can choose between either man/boy or woman/girl character.
