Play OverviewPlay Overview

The Last Campfire (2020), from the same developer as Lost Winds, is an adventure about Ember who is searching for meaning and a way home. As you travel you take a flame with you to the world, lighting torches, bringing life to creatures exploring and solving environmental puzzles to progress. It stands out for offering an adventure challenge without the usual violent combat and for its cleverly crafted puzzles.

The world is beautiful in its cartoon depiction and full of wilderness, lost folk, strange creatures and mysterious ruins. Play involves exploring the world to discover a way forward and solving environmental puzzles to open those routes and doors for Ember.

As you progress you discover special abilities, items and interactions that let you solve puzzles in new ways. For example, your telekinetic ability lets you manipulate objects from a distance so you can access switches and levers you can't touch.

The result is a game that tells a grand adventure story but avoids feeling overwhelming or too complex. You are limited to walking, running and picking things up but these actions are put to ingenious use and make each area like a jewellery box of puzzles to be slowly discovered as you investigate.
