OverviewOverview

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a fantasy shooting game with some light role-playing elements. It's a spin-off to the Borderlands series but stands out for it's playful use of Dungeons & Dragons culture and suitability for younger players. This takes the violence in a milder, less realistic direction, so the game is more suitable for older teenagers.

You play Tina, the dungeon master for a new game of Bunkers & Badasses (a tabletop game you can buy in the real world too). Your focus is on shooting enemies and collecting loot. Unlike Borderlands, the gunplay takes place in a fantasy world. Different too, you have to create your own character from scratch rather than pick a predetermined hero. Melee weapons are also added for the first time. You can also cast different magical spells such as summoning meteors, or transforming enemies into sheep.

The result is an exuberant tongue-in-cheek shooting-looting game. It's brash and silly, and with three friends you can have a lot of fun discovering new weapons and taking on new enemies.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for Strong Violence. Gameplay violence involves the use of a variety of weapons, including firearms, swords, clubs and axes. Depending on the type of weapon used, death may occur fairly quickly or take a number of shots or hits. Characters either disintegrate quickly or turn black, as if burnt, and remain in view for a time before disappearing. Violence is generally unrealistic in nature, although reactions are occasionally more realistic, for example when characters are thrown a distance by an explosion.

Violence towards fantasy characters is similar to violence against humans although, when shot by a large calibre weapons, they tend to explode, resulting in blue/green blood and chunks of matter that eventually disappear.

In one scene, a crystal unicorn is decapitated. Although there is no blood, the violence is realistic looking. The game also includes use of bad language, such as '*!@?*', '*!@?*', 'bloody', 'bollocks', 'dick', '*!@?*', 'wanker' and 'WTF'.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB TEEN for Crude Humor, Blood, Suggestive Themes, Partial Nudity, Violence, Language. As players explore graphic novel-style environments, they perform various missions, some of which involve defeating humans and monsters (e.g., skeletons, orcs, dragons). Players use stylized pistols, machine guns, rifles, swords, and explosives to shoot and/or kill enemies. Battles are accompanied by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects. The game depicts some female characters in revealing outfits (e.g., deep cleavage) and contains some suggestive dialogue (e.g., “She touched a foreign diplomat directly on his wing-wong”; “Hey baby…I'm h*ng like a vault monster”; “If it weren't for how great my rack looks, I'd say this might be what Hell is like.”). One mission prompts players to intoxicate dwarves drunk by shooting them with a Booze Gun; dwarves are depicted slurring and falling down, with bubbles floating over their heads. The game contains a handful of drug references in the text (e.g., “420 get blazed"; "The Stoner"). During the course of the game, players can spend in-game currency on slot machines. The words “b*tch,” “d*ck,” and “a*s” appear in the dialogue, while certain actions cause players' character to raise their middle finger.
