Play OverviewPlay Overview

To Hell with the Ugly (2023) is a narrative, fighting game where you investigate 1950s Los Angeles to solve the mystery of your kidnapping and recover what was stolen from you. You talk to characters, uncover clues to sneak into new areas and enter into turn-based fights with mobsters and villains when needs must. It stands out not only for its unique visual style and setting but also for how you need to pay attention to what the characters say to find subtle clues to help you solve the mystery.

You play Rocky, a charming 20-year-old man whose life is turned upside down after being drugged and kidnapped outside a bar. You wake up in a strange hospital and realise your attackers stole something very important. This sets you on a mission to uncover the identities of the perpetrators and get revenge.

You explore the environments of 19650s Los Angeles, searching crime scenes for clues and items that you can use to piece together the mystery. Talking to characters can help you get into new areas, such as a guarded safehouse where you need to speak to the different people around you to find out the guard's favourite food to bribe him and let you in. Other times, violence is unavoidable, and you must time your punches and kicks to on-screen prompts to knock out opponents.

The result is a unique puzzle game where close attention to both surroundings and characters is essential to unravelling the mysterious plot you're entwined in. The mystery, visual style, and fistfights with gangsters combine to create an interactive film-noir-inspired experience.
